Joe Nichols's New Release
Joe Nichols' first studio album in two years is in stores this week. Old Things New is the followup to his 2007 CD, Real Things. This time around, Nichols says there is one big change in the CD - he didn't get a single cut on it, as he tells us: "You know, we just wanted to make sure we got the best songs and we did 'em right. Some songs we cut didn't make the record because they weren't holdin' up, and this is the first album that I'll be releasing that I haven't written anything on. This is the first album, so that says something about our song selection."
Nichols says his busy career has left him less time for writing, but the self-penned songs he considered for this project just didn't quite make the grade. "I write whenever I can, and I really try to write songs that'll make it on to the album, but if they're just not good enough, they're not good enough. I really admire some people that are able to write an album front to back, that have the talent to do that, but for this album for me it's all about great songs, and if I'm not a writer then I'm not a writer."
Nichols' new single is called "Gimmie That Girl."
The singer is gearing up to make his Broadway debut in the lead role in the new musical, Pure Country. The show, which will also star Lorrie Morgan, is set to open early next year.
