Toby's Song For Wayman
Toby Keith's new single pays tribute to his close friend, basketball legend and jazz bassist Wayman Tisdale. Toby wrote the song, called "Cryin' For Me (Wayman's Song)," which he intended to perform at Wayman's funeral but was too distraught to make that happen.
Toby said, "I've had some loss in my life, of course my dad, but that's different. I've lost some friends and acquaintances along the way, but this one was very difficult for me. I wrote this for [the funeral], but I could not get through it. I ended up doing Willie's 'Angel Flying Too Close To The Ground' because I wasn't attached to that. It was weeks before I could make it all the way through the song. It was tough on me."
Wayman died in May from complications from cancer treatments that, at the time, had left him with a clean bill of health.
The video for "Cryin' For Me (Wayman's Song)" serves as a tribute to Wayman. The clip is currently airing on CMT and GAC.
"Cryin' For Me (Wayman's Song)" is the second single from Toby's new American Ride CD. The title track recently topped the country charts.
Toby will kick off his first European tour this month.
