Dierks Knows Ft. Hood Hero
Dierks Bentley has reached out to Sgt. Kimberly Munley, the soldier who is credited with taking down the Fort Hood shooter on Friday (November 6th). Dierks met Kimberly during a meet-and-greet at his July 4th concert at the Army base there. A picture of the two of them taken before the concert has been making its way to news media outlets.
Dierks spoke to the wounded civilian officer on the phone on Friday. He told the New York Daily News, "She said one of the bullets hit an artery and she lost a lot of blood, but she sounded in good spirits. She was laughing and joking."
Later that day, he Twittered, "Was able to speak to Sgt. Munley and pass along my prayers for a speedy recovery. She's tough! And couldn't be more nice or humble. Real hero."
After firing several rounds at shooter Maj. Nidal Hasan, he in turn shot Kimberly in both legs and her wrist. She continues to recover in the hospital, according to reports.
Dierks' next Miles & Music For Kids fundraiser will take place on November 21st in the singer's hometown of Phoenix, Arizona. All proceeds will benefit Phoenix Children's Hospital, a member of the Children's Miracle Network.
Dierks' next concert is in Des Moines, Iowa on Thursday (November 12th).
