Dolly Don't Judge
We now know where Dolly Parton stands on the subject of gay marriage - she's for it, she told CNN host Joy Behar during her recent appearance on Joy's show. Dolly said, "Sure, why can't they get married? They should suffer like the rest of us do."
In all seriousness, Dolly has told us that she doesn't judge others. "I have many friends that are gay and lesbian. I don't make any bones about that. I'm not out there preaching for anybody. I accept everybody as they are."
She does have some strong feelings for those who criticize gay people, however, like celebrated pastor Joel Osteen, who recently said that "homosexuality is not God's best work." Dolly said, "I think God made us who we are and how we are, and I don't think if (Osteen) was a religious person, he would be judging people."
Other country stars who have recently come to the defense of gay people and their right to legally marry include Reba McEntire and Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles. In fact, Jennifer has performed at Gay Pride in Atlanta on three different occasions. She told ChicagoPride.com, "I've always had a large gay following, particularly in the lesbian community. I am grateful for that. To me, it means my music transcends categories. It also means that I'm a cute girl singing a rock song in an alto voice!"
