Popular TV show MasterChef: United Tastes of America has returned for its 13th season and one Alabamian wowed the judges with her audition on the most recent episode. Hosted by everyone’s favorite fiery chef to watch, Gordon Ramsay, contestants face off each week, compete in challenges and survive elimination to ultimately earn the title of MasterChef.
This week’s episode marked the end of regional auditions from the South, where selected amateur chefs had 45 minutes to cook their signature dish for three judges. James Beard Award Nominee Tiffany Derry was present as a guest judge for this episode. If chefs earn at least two “yes” votes, they earn their white MasterChef apron and advance to the next round.
One amateur chef that graced the screen and impressed the judges was an Alabama farmer and Harvard University graduate, Savannah Miles. Savannah is an impressive Alabama farmer and owner of In the Pines Produce, which she founded to provide fresh, local products to the north Alabama area. According to TV Fanatic, her dream is to start a farm-to-table pay-what-you-can restaurant. For her signature dish, she crafted up a classic southern staple: fried chicken. The dish included a unique take on coleslaw and purple sweet potato.
The judges enjoyed what they tried and Savannah earned herself a white apron and will now move on to the next round of the competition!
